Description
Discover the Tragic Tale of Medusa - A Beautiful Sea Maiden Turned Monster
From the manufacturer:
Dive into the ancient story of Medusa, once a breathtakingly beautiful sea maiden born into the marine deity family of Phorcus and Ceto. Unlike the monstrous figure history remembers, Medusa's beginnings were filled with beauty and devotion. As the youngest of three sisters and their only mortal daughter, she dedicated her life to serving as a priestess of Athena, embracing a life of celibacy as part of her devotion.
However, her life took a tragic turn when Poseidon, captivated by Medusa's beauty, decided to pursue her. This union, born out of Poseidon's unyielding passion, marked the beginning of Medusa's downfall. Unable to direct her wrath at Poseidon, Athena punished Medusa instead. In a cruel twist of fate, Athena transformed Medusa's luscious hair into venomous snakes and her skin into scales, bestowing upon her a dreadful "gift" - the power to turn anyone who met her gaze into stone.
Burdened by her new curse, Medusa secluded herself on a distant, lost island, striving to live in isolation and prevent harm to others. Yet, as years passed, she became the very monster her appearance suggested. Athena, holding onto her grudge, awaited the perfect moment for revenge.
Enter Perseus, the son of Zeus and Danae, who vowed to decapitate Medusa. With the aid of Athena and Hermes, Perseus was equipped with a mirror-polished shield, winged sandals, a sickle, a magic bag, and an invisible hat - tools that would help him confront Medusa without falling victim to her deadly gaze. Guided by Athena, Perseus succeeded in his quest, marking the end of Medusa's tragic story.
