Description
Discover the IJN Destroyer Minegumo Model Kit, a meticulous recreation of the Asashio-class series, which played a pivotal role in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II. Originating from the advanced "TOKU class (special class)" destroyers, these ships were integral in the development of the subsequent Kagero and Yugumo class fleet destroyers. Crafted under the maru-2 Supplementary Naval Expansion Budget of 1934, the Asashio-class destroyers, including the Minegumo, set the standard for naval engineering excellence.
The IJN Destroyer Minegumo, with its keel laid at Fujinagata Shipyards in March 1937 and launched in April 1938, was at the forefront of naval action during the outbreak of war with the Allies in December 1941. Assigned to the IJN’s Destroyer Squadron 9, Minegumo was a key participant in major naval battles including the Battle of the Java Sea, the Battle of Midway, and the high-speed Tokyo Express convoys resupplying Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands. Her journey came to an end after a resupply mission to Kolombangara Island when she was sunk by American forces at the Battle of Kula Gulf and was officially stricken from IJN rolls on April 1, 1943.
