Discover the IJN light cruiser Sakawa with Fujimi's crafted model kit! The Sakawa, a distinguished member of the Agano-class ships, was constructed at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal in November 1942 and completed in the twilight of World War II, in November 1944. Designed as a torpedo squadron flagship, the Sakawa boasted a modern design and armament, setting it apart from the earlier 5,500-ton class cruisers. Its primary armament included three 15cm twin guns and two innovative long 8cm twin high-angle guns. Despite being completed shortly after the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the Sakawa saw limited action as the Combined Fleet struggled to mount organized operations. Post-war, the Sakawa was repurposed as a demobilization ship before meeting her end as an atomic bomb test ship at Bikini Atoll in July 1946.
Fujimi's model kit renders the Sakawa, showcasing her equipped with No. 21, 22, and 13 electric probes as she appeared upon completion. The kit captures the cruiser's unique silhouette, distinct from other Japanese light cruisers of the era. This full-hull model comes complete with a display base, allowing enthusiasts to showcase their work. The kit features a 25mm continuous machine gun in both a simple one-piece structure and a more detailed two-piece variant. The gunmetal of the barrel and the hull color of the base are designed for separate painting, simplifying the assembly process.
