Discover the iconic Saab Viggen jet fighter model kit, a masterpiece of aviation history brought to life by Platz. This model kit, a collaboration that incorporates parts from Italeri, is enhanced with a Japanese-language manual and exclusive markings, offering a unique building experience not found in the standard Italeri kit. The Saab Viggen, known for its distinctive canards and delta wing design, was a formidable jet fighter developed, deployed, and operated by Sweden. Starting its development journey in 1961 as the successor to the Drakken, it soared into the skies for its first flight in 1967 and commenced operations in 1971. Equipped with a powerful Pratt & Whitney JT8D-22 engine, it achieved a maximum speed of Mach 2.1 and showcased exceptional STOL capabilities, enabling takeoffs and landings on short runways. Its armament included a 30mm Oerlikon KCA gun, with the capability to carry RB71 Skyflash and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles. The Viggen's variants included the AJ37, JA37 all-weather fighter, and S37 reconnaissance type, culminating in over 300 aircraft produced before its retirement in 2005, making way for the Saab Gripen.
