Description
Discover the iconic M3 Medium Tank, a pivotal piece of military history developed and manufactured in the United States during the tumultuous times of World War II. As the German Army unleashed its blitzkrieg in the West in May 1940, the U.S. Army quickly realized the inadequacy of the 37mm gun on its M2A1 medium tanks. In a rapid response, a new model was conceived, boasting a formidable 75mm tank gun to match the escalating demands of warfare. The challenge was significant; the United States had no prior experience in designing a tank with a 75mm cannon in a rotating turret. The innovative solution was to mount the 75mm cannon on the front right side of the hull, leading to the birth of the M3 medium tank in June 1940.
This remarkable tank featured a M2 75mm cannon strategically placed on the right side of the hull, complemented by a small, all-around turret housing a 37mm secondary gun atop the fighting compartment. Additionally, a 7.62mm machine gun was mounted on top, completing its unique and irregular silhouette with a long cupola. The M3A4 variant introduced an A57 double-row liquid-cooled gasoline engine, replacing it with five in-line 6-cylinder gasoline engines originally produced for buses and arranged in a star configuration. All 109 units of this variant were dedicated to training purposes within the U.S., never seeing combat but playing a crucial role in preparing troops for battle.
This crafted kit renders the M3 Medium Tank, complete with articulated tracks and photo-etched parts to ensure a detailed and authentic build. Perfect for historians, model enthusiasts, and collectors alike, this kit promises to be a standout addition to any collection.
