Achieving a maximum flight-tested speed of 565km/h, it marked the U.S. military's first foray into fighters capable of exceeding 500km per hour. Notably, in 1942, it captured the summit of Mount Everest from an impressive altitude of 13,000 meters, showcasing its climbing ability. Before the P-38's introduction, it was the sole Allied aircraft that could intercept the Japanese Army’s Type 100 HQ reconnaissance aircraft.
