1958年10月19日浜松北基地にて行われた航空祭で3機のF-86Fが曲技飛行を行ったのが現在のブルーインパルスの始まりです。 航空自衛隊は1960年4月16日に浜松基地第1航空団に空中機動研究班を発足、天竜の名でF-86Fセイバーを使用した曲技飛行チームができました。F-86Fを使用したこのチームは後に、コールサインのインパルスブルーを使用したブルーインパルスとチーム名称を変更し、オリンピックの五輪、万博のEXPO'70を空中に描き世界中に名を知らしめました。 この後数多くの曲技飛行を日本全国で行ってきましたが、1982年のシーズンから老朽化したF-86Fに代わり国産ジェット練習機T-2にバトンタッチしました。T-2によるスピーディーな曲技飛行は多くのファンを魅了しました。F-86F、T-2を使用してきたブルーインパルスチームは、1996年のシーズンより最新型の純国産ジェット練習機T-4に変更して現在に至っています。 F-15並の空中機動が可能なT-4は、より高度で小気味よい演技を我々観客に披露しています。 〈データ〉乗員:2名全幅:9.9m全長:13.0m(ピトー管含む),12.0m(ピトー管含まず)全高:4.6mエンジン:石川島播磨重工F3-IHI-30推力:1,600kg x2標準離陸重量:5,530kg最大速度:マッハ0.9(高度10,000m)初飛行(XT-4 1号機):昭和60年7月29日
