Sculpted by Shinobu Matsumura, a leading figure in natural history and biological sculpture, this rendition reimagines the essence of the many Godzilla incarnations from the past 70 years, starting with the promotional stills of the original 1954 film. Rather than simply reproducing a suit or CG depiction, this work portrays the awe-inspiring vision of an ancient colossal creature suddenly appearing in Tokyo.
The immersive display is further enhanced by a dramatic base featuring the collapsed Nichigeki Building and Japan National Railways elevated tracks at Godzilla's feet, along with a dynamic pose of the monster clutching and biting into a train. Matsumura's passionate sculptural work is condensed into a fixed-pose plastic model kit, with organic yet highly intricate surface details faithfully reproduced directly from the original sculpt.
The kit features a signature construction method where surface detail parts attach over a core body structure, ensuring excellent durability and minimizing visible seam lines for a precise fit. The assembly process is enjoyable, and the completed model makes for an impressive display piece even without paint.
