Drawing inspiration from Aoshima, the Type 10 has been a staple in the Japan Ground Self Defense Force since its mass production began in 2011. It marks a significant improvement over the Type 90, with a notably reduced vehicle weight. Unlike the Type 90, which requires disassembly and transportation on two separate trailers, the Type 10, similar to the Type 74, can be transported on a single trailer. It's equipped with cutting-edge IT-based communication equipment and a C4I network system, enabling real-time data sharing between squadrons, the command center, and air units. The introduction of modular armor allows for easy loading and interchangeability in blocks, simplifying maintenance on the battlefield. The Type 10 uses advanced ammunition types such as APFSDS and HEAT-MP, which penetrate enemy armor more effectively than traditional armor-piercing shells. Additionally, it features an attitude control unit, and is armed with 7.62-mm and 12.7-mm machine guns.
The JGSDF Type 73 Semi Trailer, also known as the "Type 73 Semi Trainer," is a 3-axis MBT transportation trailer used by five active armies and logistic support regiments of the JGSDF. It boasts a maximum loading capacity of 40t and a maximum road speed of 60km/h, capable of navigating rough terrain. This vehicle primarily transports Type 74 and Type 10 tanks and is typically only visible at night due to Vehicle Restriction laws.
