Kuromi is a Sanrio character who debuted in 2005 as the rival to My Melody in the anime Onegai My Melody. She is a white rabbit in a black jester hood with a pink skull on the front, a devil's tail, and a birthday on 31 October. Sanrio writes her as rebellious with a girly streak.
What makes Kuromi stand out
-
The hood does the work.
Black jester hood, pink skull, pink nose, devil tail. The silhouette survives being shrunk to a keychain or blown up to plush size, which is why the same design holds across every format here.
-
A rival who outgrew the role.
She began as My Melody's opposite number and now carries shows on her own: the 2023 series Kuromi's Pretty Journey, a co-lead part in the 2025 Netflix series My Melody & Kuromi, and a virtual-idol run beginning with the 2021 single “Greedy Greedy”.
-
Born on Halloween.
The 31 October birthday is why so many releases go dark: purple and black palettes, Halloween costumes, and a licence to be the spooky one in a Sanrio line-up.
