Experience the thrill of assembling the iconic F-14A Tomcat in 1/48 scale, a masterpiece collaboration between Italeri and Platz. First taking to the skies in 1970 and entering operation in 1974, the F-14 Tomcat served as the U.S. Navy's premier carrier-capable fighter until its retirement in 2006. Designed primarily for fleet defense, this formidable aircraft was armed with long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missiles, short-range air-to-air missiles, Sidewinders, and an M61 Vulcan cannon to neutralize threats from enemy vessels. Its AN/AWG-9 radar system, capable of tracking up to 24 targets simultaneously over a distance of 160km and engaging six targets at once, was a key feature for its operational success. The Tomcat's distinctive variable wing geometry, adjustable between 20 and 68 degrees, allowed for exceptional STOL performance and high-speed capabilities.
