Experience the pinnacle of historical aviation with our crafted Night Fighter Model Kit. As nations recognized the effectiveness of night bombing during wartime, the development of night fighters became paramount. The United States initiated their night fighter program in 1940, employing aircraft such as the P-70 Havoc and Beaufighter against adversaries. However, it wasn't until October 1943 that the first 45 P-61 Black Widows were deployed, marking a significant advancement in night warfare technology.
Despite the initial success, the P-61A and P-61B models were found lacking in top speed and operational ceiling. To counter these deficiencies, the P-61C was introduced, equipped with two more powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800C engines. This upgrade propelled the aircraft to new heights, achieving a top speed of 430 mph and an operational ceiling of 30,000 feet. Additionally, the P-61C featured wide chord propellers and specialized "fighter brakes," enhancing its maneuverability and allowing for tighter turns without overshooting targets.
