Discover the iconic P-51 Mustang, a masterpiece designed in 1940 upon the request of Great Britain. This legendary aircraft served valiantly across almost every active combat zone, including the vast Pacific, where it escorted B-29 bombers from Iwo Jima to Japan. Between 1941 and 1945, the Army Air Force commissioned a staggering 14,855 Mustangs, with 7,956 being the P-51Ds, renowned for their bubble canopy and enhanced armament. These formidable aircraft took on roles ranging from interceptors to providing close support for ground forces, and continued to serve in Reserve and National Guard units up until 1957.
