Discover the iconic US F4F-3S Wildcatfish in this highly detailed model kit by Hobby Boss. The Wildcat was the premier shipboard fighter as the US entered the fray of WWII. Known for its barrel shape, angular wingtips and rudder, and a narrow-track undercarriage, the F4F was not only well-armed and reliable but also boasted an ease of landing on carrier decks that perhaps surpassed its land-based counterparts. Remarkably, the F4F never faced an operational speed limitation.
In its F4F-3 variant, the aircraft was embraced by the US Navy following an initial order of 54 units in August 1939. Modifications after the first two units saw the removal of cowl guns in favor of four 0.50 wing guns. The production models were equipped with the robust R-1830-76 engine. It's noteworthy that most F4F-3s lacked armor and self-sealing fuel tanks, a testament to the era's design priorities.
