Description
Discover the legacy of Hungarian innovation with our meticulously crafted model of the Csaba Armored Car. Designed by the visionary Hungarian expatriate Nicholas Straussler, this model pays homage to a piece of military history that bridged two worlds. While residing in Britain, Straussler engineered several armored vehicles, but it was the collaboration with the Weiss Manfred factory in Csepel, Budapest, that brought the Csaba to life. Named after the son of Attila the Hun, the Csaba was inspired by Straussler's experiences with the Alvis AC2 armored car. Following its triumphant trials in 1939, the Hungarian Army eagerly commissioned 61 units, with an additional order of 40 vehicles following in 1940. Among these, twenty were deployed as combat vehicles, while the rest served pivotal roles as armored command cars and reconnaissance vehicles.
The Csaba was renowned for its formidable armament, including a 20mm cannon and an 8mm machine gun mounted on a central turret, complemented by 9mm armored plating for robust defense. Additionally, it featured a detachable 8mm light machine gun for anti-aircraft purposes, which could be operated through the rear hatch or carried by the crew during on-foot reconnaissance missions. Unique to the Csaba was its dual driving positions, allowing operation from both the front and rear of the vehicle.
This model kit brings the Csaba's storied past to life, complete with decals and photo-etched parts for an authentic and detailed assembly. Once completed, the model measures 12.9cm in length and 6.4cm in width, making it a perfect addition to any collection or as a standalone piece that celebrates a unique chapter in military vehicle design.
