Step into a world of ancient protection and breathtaking artistry with the Door Gods Playing Cards - Half-Brick Set. This collection draws inspiration from the revered Menshen, or Door Gods, of Chinese folklore, guardian deities traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits and bestow blessings upon homes.
Each deck in this series is a masterpiece of custom illustration. The court cards feature fearsome warriors and deities, each bearing distinct character with painted faces and armored stances, embodying the protective essence of a Door God. Number cards, when fanned or laid in sequence, reveal stunning panoramic seasonal garden scenes, capturing the tranquil beauty of a villa's inner sanctum across the turning year.
The card backs showcase a tracery window design, inspired by the intersecting geometry of lattice windows and the burgeoning flowers of their respective seasons. Color palettes are informed by traditional porcelain glazing, with soft, elegant pastels used for the number cards and a unique navy blue replacing the standard red and black suits. Special Editions within the series also boast metallic gilt edges, adding a touch of frosty shimmer or vermillion and jade to their seasonal themes.
The packaging itself is part of the experience, with unique tuck boxes like the Awakened Guardian, featuring magnetic gates that, when opened, depict Shenshu and Yulü in synchronized defiance. The Watchful Sentinel tuck box, seen on the Spring Standard Edition, presents Shenshu standing guard over the decks within.
