Dive into the history of aviation with the A2D Skyshark, a groundbreaking turboprop carrier-capable aircraft developed by Douglas for the prestigious U.S. Navy. Witness the evolution of design with the prototype XA2D, which soared into the skies in 1950, incorporating the A-1 Skyraider’s tail wings while introducing a completely redesigned fuselage and main wings to accommodate the new engine. This engineering marvel showcased a remarkable performance leap over its predecessor, the A-1, leading to an initial order of over 300 units. However, the complexity and reliability issues of the engine led to the cancellation of the order by the Navy in 1952, leaving only two prototypes of the XA2D-1 and ten production versions of the A2D-1 ever constructed.
This crafted model kit brings the Skyshark's legacy to your fingertips, featuring detail in the cockpit, landing gear, intake, and exhaust pipe. Choose to display the main wing in either a folded or unfolded position to suit your display preferences. The kit includes two types of canopies (open and closed) to further customize your model, along with resin ejection seats, two variations of exhaust pipes, photo-etched parts, and decals for four different versions.
