Description
Discover the iconic Kfz 12, a medium-size cross-country vehicle that played a pivotal role during WWII. Manufactured in Germany by the esteemed Horch company, this vehicle was a staple for the German army, serving as both a staff car and personnel carrier. Crafted by renowned manufacturers including Auto-Union and Opel from 1937 to 1943, the Kfz 12 is a testament to engineering excellence of its time.
This 6-seater car variant is powered by a robust 79 bhp V-8 Horch 3.5 litre petrol engine, ensuring reliable performance across diverse terrains. With a loaded weight of 3 tons and an impressive road range of 400 kilometers, it was designed for efficiency and endurance. The Kfz 12 was often equipped with map tables in the rear passenger compartment for strategic planning, while maintaining the functionality of a standard personnel carrier. Additionally, a towing hitch was standard, enabling it to tow a 700 kg trailer or a small artillery piece, enhancing its utility on the battlefield.
Vehicles built before 1940 featured spare wheels mounted on the sides, whereas models post-1940 had them stowed inside the body, showcasing the evolution in design and functionality. Despite its capabilities, the Einheits Pkw family, which includes the Kfz 12, was deemed expensive to build and maintain. Its design also faced criticism for being overweight, leading to the cessation of production by 1943. The family also includes the Kfz 15 radio car and Kfz 16 artillery observer car, each designed for specific military needs.
This kit comes complete with photo-etched parts and high-quality decals, allowing enthusiasts to recreate the historic Kfz 12 with remarkable detail and accuracy.
