Zundamon

Zundamon is a mascot character from the Tohoku Zunko Project, created by SSS and designed by Niniko Edomura. She is a zunda fairy, named for the edamame paste used in zunda-mochi, and began as a related character to the Vocaloid Tohoku Zunko rather than a voice synthesiser of her own.

What makes Zundamon stand out

• A fairy with a transformation. The official setting makes her a zunda fairy who turns into Tohoku Zunko's Zunda Arrow; since June 2021 a human form is part of it too, and eating zunda mochi is said to raise her intelligence.
• The speech pattern is the character. She closes sentences with "~nanoda" and uses "boku" as her first-person pronoun. Her birthday is December 5, and those habits travel with her into every video, song and kit.
• Designed to be borrowed. She was conceived as a yuru-kyara, deliberately unlike a moe character, so that municipalities and small businesses could use her; since around 2015 Tohoku companies can do so without an application.
• The voice arrived in 2021. VOICEVOX released a Zundamon speech library in August 2021 built from Yuina Ito's voice, and the run of user-made videos that followed carried her beyond the project she came from.
