Zhao Yun 00 Gundam

Zhao Yun 00 Gundam is the spear-and-bike specialist of Dragon's Watch in SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden, the 2019 entry in the SD Gundam World line. The GN-0000 00 Gundam of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 carries the role, and the series writes him as a rider first and a swordsman second.

What it does in the story

Dragon's Watch works out of the Shu Area and is untouched by the Etiolation Trinity virus that has hollowed out the rest of the world. Zhao Yun holds a place on its front line, and he is framed through speed rather than weight: he arrives, he runs a target down, and he is gone again.

What makes it different

  • He fights with two spears, not one. Both blades are ground sharp enough that, in his hands, the thrusts read as streaks of light rather than as separate strikes. The pair is what makes him a spearman rather than a brawler, and the second spear is the reason his silhouette reads at a glance.
  • His finisher doubles when he is mounted. The attack is a storm of claw-shaped slashes, and the setting specifies that both its force and its speed double while he is riding. That is why the bike counts as part of the attack rather than as transport home afterwards.
  • The bike ships in the same box. SDSS-07 is sold as Zhao Yun 00 Gundam and the Bilongqu together, released in May 2019. The bike carries the blue dragon's name for its colour and for an acceleration the setting treats as top-tier.

Frequently asked questions

1. Does the Zhao Yun kit include the bike?

Yes. SDSS-07 pairs the figure with the Bilongqu and released in May 2019, so the two arrive as one kit rather than as separate purchases.

2. Why does the bike change how strong he is?

Because his finisher is written to scale with it: force and speed both double while he is riding. Handled on foot, the same attack is only half the move.

3. Which mobile suit is Zhao Yun based on?

The GN-0000 00 Gundam, the lead machine of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. The Soketsuden line casts the Shu heroes with Gundam-type leads from the TV series rather than with enemy suits.
