ZGMF-X666S Legend Gundam

ZGMF-X666S Legend Gundam is Rey Za Burrel's machine through the last third of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (2004–2005, C.E. 73). ZAFT built it as the ZGMF-X13A Providence Gundam's successor, laid out around the DRAGOON system from the start.

What it does in the story

Its first fight is against Athrun Zala, who has taken a GOUF Ignited, and the exchange ends when Shinn Asuka's Destiny steps in. Rey then flies it at Heaven's Base and at Daedalus, where he downs two Destroys and sinks the escaping Girty Lue with Lord Djibril aboard.

What makes it different

• Ten pods, and they fire while attached. Two large GDU-X7 cannons sit on top of the backpack and eight smaller GDU-X5 pods on the pack and side skirts. The pack pivots and the skirt mounts rotate, so the pods shoot forward without launching.
• It is a Second Stage suit with Third Stage output. The Hyper-Deuterion Engine pushes its output past the other Second Stage machines, yet ZAFT kept the S in the number for political reasons: the Junius Treaty barred reactor-equipped suits.
• The beam shields sit in the hands. Two MX2351 Solidus Fulgor generators are built into the backs of the hands, as on the Destiny Gundam. The shield follows the hand, so it can strike as well as block.
• Its head carries two pairs of blade antennas. The extra antennas give it better intelligence gathering than the Providence, which is part of why the DRAGOON layout was reworked for ordinary pilots.
