ZGMF-X19A Infinite Justice Gundam

ZGMF-X19A Infinite Justice Gundam is Athrun Zala's machine for the second half of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (2004–2005, C.E. 73). By one account ZAFT's design bureau drew it, the Clyne Faction and Terminal took it over, and Kira Yamato shaped the finished suit to pair with his Strike Freedom.

What it does in the story

Lacus Clyne delivers it in person, flying it through re-entry into the Archangel during ZAFT's invasion of Orb. Athrun, still injured, takes it at Shinn Asuka's Destiny and Rey Za Burrel's Legend and cuts off the Destiny's wrist, then ends the war using it with METEOR unit 08 to cut apart Requiem's Station One.

What makes it different

  • The shield is three weapons. The MX2002 Carrier Beam Shield makes a beam shield and carries an EEQ8 grapple stinger plus an RQM55 Shining Edge boomerang that can be thrown or fixed as a blade.
  • The legs are armed. A pair of MR-Q15A Griffon beam blades runs down the outside of the lower legs. The Fatum-01 carries the Griffon 2.
  • The backpack fights on its own. The Fatum-01 detaches and flies as a separate unit, under its own AI or by remote control, with two Hyper Fortis beam cannons. Handles underneath let another suit ride it.
  • Its joints are Phase Shift armour. The inner frame and joints are Phase Shift armour material, which gives the suit near-human flexibility. Excess energy bleeds off as a silver glow, where the Strike Freedom's is gold.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 18.9 m, with a full weight of 79.67 t, per Bandai's published spec
  • 1/144: roughly 13 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 19 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Is the Infinite Justice the same suit as the Justice?

No. The Justice is ZGMF-X09A from C.E. 71; the Infinite Justice is ZGMF-X19A, built two years later on Athrun's combat data. The Type II is a separate 2024 machine.

2. What does the infinity symbol in the name mean?

It is read as Infinite. The number stays in the ZGMF-X19 line, so the symbol marks an upgrade rather than a new family.

3. Why does Athrun fly the backpack into the Minerva?

Because the Fatum-01 can be risked where the suit cannot. He drives it into the ship's engines, then still has the unit to help bring down Requiem's cannon.

4. Does it need the METEOR unit?

No, but the pairing is how it was built to fight at the end of the war. The METEOR gives it the firepower for Station One.
