YG-111 Gundam G-Self

YG-111 Gundam G-Self is the prototype at the centre of Gundam Reconguista in G (2014–2015, Regild Century 1014). Towasanga builds it to the Rose of Hermes blueprints held by House Rayhunton, and it starts the series on an Earth survey mission with Raraiya Akuparl at the controls. Bellri Zenam becomes its main pilot once the Megafauna's crew has it, and Aida Surugan gives the machine its name.

What it does in the story

The G-Self was built around photon technology rather than around a war, and it spends the series being fought over by Towasanga, the Capital Army and the pirate crew that ends up flying it. Aida names it after the G-Arcane it resembles, and Bellri takes it through the Capital Territory's campaigns and then into space. Its backpack changes with the theatre, up to the Perfect Pack.

What makes it different

  • The frame is photon, not Minovsky. The suit runs on a Photon Frame, and the glowing panels all over its body are Photon Batteries. When it has more energy than it can store it can release the excess instead of holding it.
  • It flies without a backpack. With no pack fitted it can still fly or hover for 45 seconds inside Earth's atmosphere, which makes the pack swaps an upgrade rather than a requirement. Every faction in the story supplies its own.
  • The beam saber doubles as a shield. A pair stow in the collar. The blade is slender but can be lengthened or shortened, and spun at speed while held it throws up a beam shield instead of a cutting edge.
  • The packs are the design. Atmospheric, Space, Reflector, Assault, Tricky and High Torque come from different builders, and Venus Globe adds the Perfect Pack with its own shield. Each one redefines what the suit can do rather than simply adding thrust.

How big is it?

  • Head height: 18.0 m, with an empty weight of 31.1 t, according to Bandai's official spec
  • 1/144: roughly 12.5 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Why is there only one G-Self?

The YG-111 lost to the Moran in the competition to become Towasanga's standard machine, so only the prototype was built. Lorucca Biskes and Miraji Barbaros assembled it to the blueprints without fully understanding every function.

2. What is the Rayhunton Code?

Biological data on House Rayhunton's two missing children, loaded into the suit by loyalists with a standing order to find and protect them. That hidden mission is why the prototype was out on an Earth survey.

3. Does the G-Self have a core fighter?

Yes. It uses a Core Block System, with the cockpit carried in a core fighter that separates from the suit. That fighter is the escape route as well as the control centre.

4. Which shield does the G-Self carry?

Three over the story: a Towasanga original with built-in vulcan guns and sliding beam-absorbing reflectors, a cheaper Amerian Army version, and the Venus Globe shield that arrives with the Perfect Pack.
