YAMS-132 Rozen Zulu

YAMS-132 Rozen Zulu is a Neo Zeon prototype from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (novel 2007, OVA 2010, U.C. 0096), flown by Angelo Sauper of the Sleeves. Hajime Katoki designed it as a heavily modified version of Angelo's own Geara Zulu built with spare parts from the Sinanju, and its job is fighting enemy funnels rather than duelling mobile suits.

What it does in the story

Angelo takes it into the fighting around the General Revil, where its wire-guided arms let one machine attack several targets at once, and remarks that he is sparing Federation lives that day. He also flies it inside his own ship when the crew turns on Full Frontal, and later leads the attack on the Nahel Argama.

What makes it different

  • Both forearms are wire-guided weapons. Each arm ends in an INCOM with three adjustable-output mega particle cannons and three piercing claws. Thin relay INCOMs help each unit change direction mid-flight, and a quasi-psycommu system lets an ordinary pilot steer them.
  • It carries eight Psycho Jammers. The rose-bud devices sit in the two back containers, and they are not offensive: they build a Psycho-Field around enemy units to jam and capture them. Six were enough to form an octahedral field that shut down the Unicorn Gundam's NT-D.
  • The shield is a gun emplacement. The Mega Beam Shield is Gundarium alloy with three mega particle cannons around a central I-Field generator. The I-Field defends against beam fire and can also scatter the shield's own beams, widening the attack area or bending shots into enemies in other directions.
  • It lost an arm and gained a wired shield. After the right-arm INCOM was destroyed, a wired shield unit was fitted in its place. It deploys as a remote weapon like the INCOM and carries the same I-Field generator and three cannons, so the lost capability came back in a different shape.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 25.2 m, with a head height of 22.5 m and a full weight of 72.6 t, per Bandai's published spec
  • 1/144: roughly 17.5 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Is the Rozen Zulu built for a Newtype?

No. It was designed as a psycommu warfare machine for pilots who are not Newtypes, so it relies on a quasi-psycommu system mixing remote control with computer guidance. Psycho-Frame sits around the cockpit only because Sinanju spare parts went into the build.

2. What does a Psycho Jammer actually do?

It disrupts the link between an enemy pilot and Psycommu-guided weapons such as funnels, then can hold the unit inside a Psycho-Field. The devices carry no weapons, so the suit has to close in to use them.

3. Why does the Episode 7 version look different?

Because the right-arm INCOM was destroyed and replaced by the wired shield unit before that point. The later configuration has a shield on each arm rather than one shield and one bare INCOM.

4. What scale are the Rozen Zulu kits?

Both are 1/144 HGUC: the standard suit as number 149, and the Episode 7 version with the wired shield unit.
