XM-07B Vigna Ghina II

XM-07B Vigna Ghina II is a Crossbone Vanguard commander suit from Gundam F91 Mobile Suit Variations, the design series that extended the F91 line beyond the film, and it also appears in Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam. It was built as an improvement on the XM-07 Vigna Ghina and is recorded as Dorel Ronah's machine.

What it does in the story

The records around this suit are thin on purpose: it is a variation design rather than a film unit, and the accounts of it place Dorel Ronah in the cockpit after the Crossbone Vanguard was revived, before the events of Crossbone Gundam. A separate Jupiter Battle Specification version was built during the Jupiter Wars of the 0130s with additional weapons and technology, which is the version most often drawn and modelled.

What makes it different

  • Shelf nozzles replace the fin nozzles. Where the XM-07 carries eight articulated fin nozzles, the Vigna Ghina II uses the Berga Giros's shelf nozzles as flexible wings, arranged to echo the F91's VSBR. The change trades the earlier suit's nozzle layout for a wing-like silhouette on the back.
  • Shoulder fins feed a bigger generator. The suit adopts the F91's shoulder fins to improve cooling, which is what allows a more powerful generator to be installed. Cooling is the limiting factor on a compact U.C. 0120s machine, so the fins are a performance part rather than decoration.
  • It carries a shot lancer with machine guns. The shot lancer is the Crossbone Vanguard's answer to fighting inside colonies, where a beam hit can set off a reactor: the tip is driven by electromagnetic acceleration and can be launched like a missile. This one mounts a pair of heavy machine guns to make the pass more dangerous.
  • The beam shield is a stronger one. Armament otherwise follows the standard Vigna Ghina, with two beam sabers on the rear skirt and a beam shield on the left forearm, but the shield runs at a higher output. That matches the larger generator the cooling fins made possible.

Frequently asked questions

1. Does the Vigna Ghina II appear in the F91 film?

No. It comes from Gundam F91 Mobile Suit Variations, the design series built around the film, and it is also used in Crossbone Gundam. Its pilot of record is Dorel Ronah.

2. How is it different from the XM-07 Vigna Ghina?

The backpack, the cooling and the close-quarters weapon are the changes: shelf nozzles instead of fin nozzles, F91-style shoulder fins for a stronger generator, and a shot lancer added to the standard beam rifle, sabers and shield.

3. What is the Jupiter Battle Specification?

A version of the Vigna Ghina II built during the Jupiter Wars of the U.C. 0130s, fitted with additional weapons and technology beyond the base suit. It is treated as a variant of the same machine rather than a new design.

4. Which kit covers the Vigna Ghina II?

The RE/100 1/100 release from 2019 builds the standard suit, and a P-Bandai RE/100 kit covers the Jupiter Battle version. Both are 1/100, so there is no smaller kit of this machine.
