Woodstock

Woodstock is the small yellow bird in Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts and Snoopy's closest friend. He appeared in the strip in 1966, and Schulz only named him in June 1970, borrowing the name from the Woodstock festival.

What makes Woodstock stand out

• One listener, one translator. His speech is drawn as chicken-scratch marks, punctuation and the occasional exclamation point. Snoopy is the only character who understands him.
• A bird with several jobs. He has been the World War I Flying Ace's mechanic, Snoopy's secretary when Snoopy was made Head Beagle, and his caddie on the golf course.
• Too small for the football gag. In the recurring football routine his size is the joke: he lines up to catch the ball and is simply hit by it.
• No species, on purpose. Schulz never said what kind of bird he is. The strip commits only to small, yellow and feathered.

What this collection covers

Medicom Toy carries most of it: UDF releases from Peanuts Series 13 and 14, and the Vinyl Collectible Dolls Snoopy and Woodstock set from 1997. An Atlantis ice hockey game set and a nanoblock Snoopy house sit alongside them, and several pieces are Snoopy-led with Woodstock as the second figure.
