VF-19A

The VF-19A is the first production Excalibur, entering service in 2041 as the type that followed the YF-19 prototype of Macross Plus.

What it does in the story

It appears in the PlayStation games: Valhalla III machines in Macross Digital Mission VF-X, and a sky-blue VF-19A with the VF-X Ravens in Macross VF-X2.

What makes it different

  • Same airframe, same temper. Externally close to the YF-19 apart from a single-eye camera under the goggle, it kept the prototype's sharp pitch response, so it went to special-operations squadrons, not line units.
  • What later types lost. The F and S were rebuilt for stability, giving up canards and vortex flow controllers; the A still has them.

How big is it?

  • Fighter mode: 18.62 m long and 3.94 m tall, on a 14.87 m span.

What this collection covers

Three Hasegawa kits: a 1/72 SVF-440 Dullahans machine with FAST Pack and high-manoeuvre missiles, and two 1/48 boxes, for the VF-X Ravens and SVF-569 Lightnings.

Frequently asked questions

1. Why is the A harder to fly?

It keeps the canards, vortex controllers and quick pitch; the F and S traded those for stability.

2. Are these kits or finished models?

All three are Hasegawa plastic kits.
