VF-0A/S

The VF-0A/S is the VF-0 Phoenix as it reached service in Macross Zero: the A as the line aircraft, the S as the commander's machine.

What it does in the story

The 2008 U.N. Wars, a year before the VF-1 entered service, with the Phoenix pushed into combat as a trials aircraft.

What makes it different

  • An interim engine. No variable-fighter reactor was ready, so it flew two tuned EGF-127 turbofans with 2,075 km of range.
  • Mighty Wing mode. A capacitor lets the energy-conversion armour run briefly in fighter mode.
  • One head or two. The A has one laser machine gun in the head, the S two.

How big is it?

  • Fighter mode: 18.69 m long, 16,191 kg empty.
  • Performance: Mach 2.74 at 11,000 m.

What this collection covers

Hasegawa's 1/72 range covers it twice: a battroid kit buildable as either type with a choice of heads, and a kit that comes with the Ghost drone.
