Ultra Magnus

Ultra Magnus is the Autobot soldier in Transformers who will not take the rank his record earns him. The 1986 toy was a white redeco of Optimus Prime with an armour trailer.

What it does in the story

His function is City Commander. In the 1986 film Optimus Prime hands him the Matrix, and he spends the story trying to be worthy of it. He calls himself a soldier and nothing more.

What makes it different

  • The armour is a trailer. The toy is a white Optimus Prime whose trailer folds into armour.
  • Car carrier. The vehicle mode hauls rather than pursues, which suits a character built around holding a line.
  • Two continuities. The Generation 1 machine and the IDW version are different builds.

How big is it?

  • Premium Masterline: About 24 inches, with LED eyes.

What this collection covers

Prime 1 Studio's Premium Masterline PMTF-04 takes the Generation 1 machine at about 24 inches, designed by Josh Nizzi with LED eyes and a swappable Fusion Axe. Flame Toys' Furai covers the IDW version.
