Tetsuro Kuroo

Tetsuro Kuroo is the captain of Nekoma High's volleyball team in Haruichi Furudate's Haikyu!!. He is a third-year middle blocker at a Tokyo school that Karasuno keeps being measured against.

What makes Tetsuro Kuroo stand out

• He blocks by reading, not guessing. Kuroo's reputation is built on read blocking: he works out where the set is going and arrives there. At a training camp he takes Kei Tsukishima aside after hours to go through the same skill.
• The scheming captain. That is the nickname, and it fits. He is a strategist first and a provocation expert second, teasing people to see how they answer and then playing it straight once the ball is in the air.
• The speech before the match. Nekoma's ritual is a talk from the captain, and his compares the team to blood that has to keep moving to carry oxygen. The banner reads Connect.
• Paired with the quiet setter. Kenma Kozume is Nekoma's setter, the tactician the team's play runs through, and Kuroo's childhood friend. He is also his opposite, which is why so many releases pair them.
