SVMS-01E Graham's Union Flag Custom

SVMS-01E Graham's Union Flag Custom is the tuned Union Flag Graham Aker flies through the first season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (A.D. 2307-2308). The Union builds it after his first exchange with a Gundam, and he leads the anti-Gundam taskforce with it.

What it does in the story

It debuts over Taribia, trading shots with the Exia and coming out ahead, then drives the Gundam into the sea. Over an Iris Corporation factory in Iowa he takes it against the Throne Eins, kicks the beam saber from its hand and cuts off its firing arm before the g-forces force him to break off.

What makes it different

  • It was built in a week. Professor Ralph Eifman, a core member of the Flag's development team, turned it around in seven days, and the brief ignored the strain on the pilot, on Graham's own instructions.
  • Cruising speed is double the standard Flag's. The hydrogen load was cut, the armour lightened and the flight units swapped for a larger high-output type other Flag pilots could not control. Even with the anti-G system on, a full-speed turn leaves the pilot feeling 12G, so nobody else can fly it.
  • The black finish is functional. An anti-beam coating over the frame gives the suit its dark colour and some beam resistance; the black is the coating, not a paint scheme.

No. The Over Flag was developed from it, but the two differ in their enhancements and are treated as separate machines.

2. What became of this Flag?

It was rebuilt into the SVMS-01X Union Flag Custom II, the GN Flag, running on a GN Drive Tau, which Graham takes into the closing fight of the season.

3. Does it still transform?

Yes. It keeps the Flag's mid-air transformation and adds a high-speed flight mode with the arms straight back. It is also mirrored for a left-handed pilot, with the rifle in the left hand.
