SF-01 Super Fumina

SF-01 Super Fumina is not a military mobile suit but a Gunpla, built and flown by Minato Sakai in Gundam Build Fighters Try. It is a figure of Fumina Hoshino in a yellow-and-white outfit cut to resemble her RGM-237C Powered GM Cardigan.

What it does in the story

Sakai entered it in the Meijin Cup Open Course, the competition's artistic category, against Yuuma Kousaka's Lightning Zeta Gundam. Meijin Kawaguchi III gave the win to the Lightning Zeta because Sakai had never asked Fumina's permission to build her likeness. Sakai protested, and the resulting one-on-one broke up into a battle royale once Sekai Kamiki arrived with the Kamiki Burning Gundam.

What makes it different

• The finish is the entry, not the firepower. It was painted with an anime-style technique so the shading shifts with the viewing angle, and the joints were sculpted to sit almost out of sight while still moving. The hair is ultra-fine fibre and the face has eyes that blink.
• The armour is meant to come off. Plating is light, which cuts weight and lets the machine dodge rather than absorb hits, and the outfit-shaped armour can be cast aside once it takes damage. The waist is ten per cent narrower than the real Fumina's.
• The shields fly on their own. Both shields mount on the back and detach in use, working as remote defensive bits with a beam blade that extends from the bottom edge. The two large rifles stay on the backpack.
