STTS/F-400 Murasame Kai

STTS/F-400 Murasame Kai is the updated transformable mobile suit flown in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom (2024, C.E. 75). Orb's Murasame is reworked for the Orb National Defense Force and for Compass, the world peace monitoring organisation, and Mu La Flaga's machine is the one the film follows.

What it does in the story

Mu's Murasame Kai is caught in the Black Knights' sweep of Compass in the Ordor region. It loses its right arm in the fighting and holds out long enough for him to pull Murrue Ramius off the exploding Archangel.

What makes it different

  • The transformation was reworked, not just the paint. Bandai's own notes say the frame and the weapon set carry over from the Murasame while the silhouette and the transformation mechanism are substantially new. In mobile armour mode the main wings now sweep backwards.
  • The tail stabiliser hides a cannon. The Type 73 assault shield beam cannon Iwatsusunowo sits at the base of the tail stabiliser and can only be fired in mobile armour mode. The shield on the left arm becomes the nose of that form.
  • Mu's unit is tuned past its safety margin. Compass machines are standard, but his suit is adjusted to raise the performance limit at the cost of safety, and its electronics and parts keep being changed after deployment.
