Saiga Gundam

Saiga Gundam is a warrior character from Chou SD Sengokuden: Bujin Kira Hagane, the eighth Musha Gundam series, which ran from 1996 to 1997 through the Comic World manga printed in BB Senshi kit manuals and a Comic BomBom serialisation. Its design motif is the Gundam Deathscythe Hell, and the character was released as BB Senshi No.160.

What it does in the story

The Hyakki Yagyō-shū took his master's son hostage, and Saiga served them under the name Saiko Dōga until Hyakuretsu-shō came to his aid. He then changed sides and joined the Gundam army, taking a place in the Shin Hakko no Jin. In the manga version he stays behind to defend Tenkyū during the last battle and so never faces Shin'ami Gensui.

What makes it different

• One design carries two characters. Saiga Gundam is modelled on the Gundam Deathscythe Hell. His dark identity, Saiko Dōga, is modelled on the Gira Doga psycho-use test type, so the same machine reads as two different characters.
• His signature move is a spinning cut. The Tendō Ōgi: Kaiten Daikiri Ranbu, performed with his weapon, the Kabuto Saiga. It is the technique the character is known for in the Comic World manga.
• Five kits build one statue. A mysterious Bujin-zō appears before the heroes, and it is completed by combining parts that came with five BB Senshi kits: No.157 Rairyū, No.158 Tenrei, No.159 Jūha, Saiga's No.160 and No.161 Hyakuretsu.
• The series is a sequel set fifteen years on. Bujin Kira Hagane follows Chou Kidō Daishōgun by fifteen years, and most of its cast is modelled on machines and characters from Gundam Wing.
