Ryuoumaru is the first powered-up form of Ryuujinmaru, the dragon Mashin that carries Wataru Ikusabe through Mashin Hero Wataru, the Sunrise series that began in April 1988. He debuts in episode 22, is voiced by Tesshō Genda, and is built on dragon, phoenix and paladin motifs.
What it does in the story
Ryuujinmaru is destroyed and revived with the Water of Life; the revival fuses Kuujinmaru's soul with Wataru's courage, and the result is Ryuoumaru, same pilot and new frame. His first fight is against Bullocky No. 2, and his finisher is the Phoenix Dragon Sword, backed by the Sheath Shield and four inherited fists.
What makes it different
-
He flies without help
Ryuujinmaru could not fly alone; the Phoenix form, armour folded in, gives Ryuoumaru solo flight and an air-combat mode.
-
The neck is the weak point
The neck thruster in Phoenix form is the one vulnerable part: knock it out and he cannot fly until it regenerates.
-
Four Mashin, one arrow
With Senoumaru, Genoumaru and Kuuoumaru he forms the Kuwatro Arrow, four Mashin charging as a single shaft of light.
How big is it?
- Anime specification: 3.97 m tall, 8.42 t.
- HG Amplified IMGN kit: about 170 mm.
What this collection covers
Bandai's HG kit keeps the anime proportions and pulls the chest blocks forward for the Houryuken stance, with a parts swap into Houou form. HG Amplified IMGN rebuilds him on longer limbs with gold-plated parts. A third kit sits on the series-common frame, splitting for mixing with other Mashin.
