RX-93-ν2 Hi-ν Gundam, pronounced "High-New", is Amuro Ray's machine in the novel Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - Beltorchika's Children, a separate telling of the same U.C. 0093 story. It is a Londo Bell suit built by Anaheim Electronics, and it is its own design rather than a variant of the RX-93 ν Gundam that appears in the 1988 film.
What it does in the story
Amuro first takes the Hi-ν Gundam out during Londo Bell's assault on Axis, where Neo Zeon pilots try to hold him by snaring the suit in electrified cables and the Fin Funnels cut him loose. He later uses it to snipe Axis's thrusters with the Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher while Londo Bell tries to push the asteroid off course, and finally fights Char's Nightingale in it.
What makes it different
-
Amuro designed the psycommu himself.
The suit's psycommu system was laid out by Amuro, who was both its pilot and its engineer, and it started as nothing more than the control link for the Fin Funnels. The rest of the machine went back to basics on purpose, staying compact instead of following the trend towards bigger, more complicated suits.
-
Its Psycho-Frame was cut out of an enemy suit.
After Londo Bell captured a damaged MSN-03-2 Psycho Doga, Amuro had sections of that suit's Psycho-Frame cut away and fitted around the Hi-ν's cockpit to sharpen control of the Funnels. That transplant is why the model number carries the -ν2 suffix on top of the original RX-93.
-
Six Fin Funnels work as a barrier as much as a weapon.
The funnels hang in wing-like racks on the backpack, three to a side, each one carrying its own small generator. Place at least four of them and they form a tetrahedral beam shield around the suit, and moving them changes the shape of the covered area.
-
The heaviest weapon is fed by the ship, not the suit.
The Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher draws its power through a cable from the Ra Cailum instead of from the Gundam's reactor. It rides on the ship's flank when it is not in use, which is why the Hi-ν cannot simply carry it into a fight.

Frequently asked questions
1. Is the Hi-ν Gundam the same machine as the ν Gundam from the film?
No. The film's suit is the RX-93 ν Gundam. The Hi-ν is the Beltorchika's Children design, drawn by Yutaka Izubuchi, and the novel treats it as the machine Amuro has instead. The two share a role in the story, not a design.
2. Where does the ν2 in RX-93-ν2 come from?
The suit started life as an RX-93. Once Amuro's own modifications and the transplanted Psycho-Frame were in place the suffix was added, and the novel itself still calls the machine simply the ν Gundam.
3. How many Fin Funnels does it carry, and how are they arranged?
Six, in two racks of three on the backpack, opening out like wings. Each funnel is built from three blocks and has its own generator, so it manoeuvres without relying only on thrust.
4. Does the Hi-ν Gundam appear in the anime?
Not in the 1988 film. It comes from the Beltorchika's Children novel and its manga adaptation, and from there into games and Gunpla, including a Build Divers appearance in different colours.
