RX-139 Hambrabi

RX-139 Hambrabi is a prototype transformable mobile suit from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1986, U.C. 0087), flown by Yazan Gable's team in the Titans. The Federation and the Titans put several experimental transforming machines into combat trials during the Gryps Conflict, and the Hambrabi was developed with Paptimus Scirocco's help.

What it does in the story

Three prototypes went to Yazan Gable, Dunkel Cooper and Ramsus Hasa, who flew them as the Hambrabi Team. The suit fights the AEUG repeatedly, including at Kilimanjaro, and is still in Yazan's hands at the Battle of Gryps.

What makes it different

  • The transformation was simplified for mass production. Scirocco was involved in the design, and the suit uses a simplified transformation system meant to make it easier to build in numbers. Cost and maintenance were rated well, yet only a few were completed.
  • Five mono-eye cameras watch in every direction. Sensors sit all over the body rather than in one head camera, so the pilot can find and track targets in mobile suit form and in mobile armor form alike.
  • It stays a close-combat machine in mobile armor mode. Few transforming suits keep their melee ability once folded into a travel shape. The Hambrabi can still use its forearm claws and handheld weapons in either form, and the claws double as landing gear.
  • The Sea Serpent is a wired shock weapon. A grappling head on a cable delivers an electric shock, and verniers in its tip let the pilot steer it. Two or more can be linked into a net the pilots call the Spider Web.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 19.9 m in mobile suit mode according to Bandai's official spec; the mobile armor form measures 17.9 m long by 15.9 m across
  • 1/144: roughly 14 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. How many Hambrabi units were built?

Only a few. Three prototypes are named, issued to Yazan Gable, Dunkel Cooper and Ramsus Hasa, who fly together as the Hambrabi Team.

2. Why five mono-eye sensors?

They are spread over the body instead of a single head camera, so the pilot can track targets in either form, since the suit switches between them constantly.

3. What is the Fedayeen rifle?

A 6.6 MW beam rifle shared with the RX-110 Gabthley. It can also work as a beam saber, and it stows on the body in mobile armor mode.

4. Does the Hambrabi appear outside Zeta Gundam?

Yes, in Gundam Build Divers and its sequel, and in games such as Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam.
