RGM-79C GM Type C, also called the GM Kai or GM Late Type, is the Earth Federation Forces' late-production GM from Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. It was built at the end of the One Year War to give the inconsistent GM family one reference design.
What it does in the story
Mass production began in the war's last months, and large numbers — then still called GM Late Type — attacked A Baoa Qu's E Field on 31 December U.C. 0079. Production continued after the war, and in U.C. 0083 the Delaz Fleet's surprise attacks destroyed many at Torrington Base before their pilots could reply.
What makes it different
It was designed as a template.
Wartime GMs varied too much in design and specification, so the Type C was built as the line's standard, with productivity taking priority over speed.
The head borrows from two other GMs.
It mixes mechanisms from the D Type and G Type, swaps instruments for parts that were easier to make, and carries more vulcan ammunition, with terminals reorganised for quick modification.
The centre block is a Core Block descendant.
The cockpit block follows the RGM-79, drawn from the RX-78's Core Block, so the central block could specialise a unit for space or ground.
The legs are meant to be modified.
A simple frame, exposed energy cables and room for leg thrusters gave the Type C an adaptability its manual compares to the Zaku II.

Frequently asked questions
1. Is the GM Type C the GM Kai?
The same machine. GM Kai and GM Late Type are both names for the RGM-79C.
2. Why another GM at the end of the war?
Because wartime GMs varied so much that the service had no standard to build from, and the Type C was meant to be it.
3. Why did it do badly in U.C. 0083?
It never served as a true main force suit, and at Torrington Base the Delaz surprise attack destroyed many before they could fight back.
4. What weapons could it carry?
Fixed armament was two 60 mm vulcans and one beam saber, two on commanders; handheld options ran from 90 mm machine guns to beam rifles and a 180 mm cannon.
