RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type

RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type is the Earth Federation's ground-only mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team (U.C. 0079). It was developed before the RX-78-2's combat data came back, and it stands ahead of the standard RGM-79 GM in the Federation's production programme.

What it does in the story

The type was pushed into Southeast Asia to slow Zeon's expansion, and priority examples went to special forces so their engagements could produce data on fighting mobile suits. By the close of the war it was at Operation Odessa.

What makes it different

• It outperforms the GM that came after it. Every internal part is tuned for ground combat and the armour is Luna Titanium, which puts its mobility and general performance above the later RGM-79 GM. Under gravity it is said to rival the RX-78.
• It is the Gundam Ground Type with the extras deleted. The two shared a production line, and the GM version drops the chest vulcan and multi-launcher, the weapon container mount on the backpack, and some generator output.
• Its parts repair the Gundam Ground Type. Built to an established production format, it was easier to make, maintain and keep in spares. Its parts fit the Gundam Ground Type, whose own supply was thin: Karen Joshua's repaired Gundam carries a GM Ground Type head.
• Only 42 were completed. Luna Titanium kept it out of true mass production, so output stopped at 42 units. What it left behind was the head structure later inherited by the RGM-79 GM.

How big is it?

• Head height: 18.0 m
• 1/144: roughly 12.5 cm
