PPGN-001 Gundam Amazing Exia

PPGN-001 Gundam Amazing Exia is Meijin Kawaguchi's Gunpla in Gundam Build Fighters (2013), built by Plavsky Particle System Engineering on the GN-001 Gundam Exia under the development code A5. It enters the 7th Gunpla Battle World Tournament unfinished.

What it does in the story

Work in space was cut short, so the model came back to Earth for Allan Adams and Kawaguchi to finish the weapons, and it fought the semi-finals at roughly 80 percent. The finished form adds the Amazing GN Blade and the Trans-Am Booster; the same model is later converted into the Exia Dark Matter.

What makes it different

  • The shield is the centre of the design. The Amazing GN Shield sits on the left forearm, and the blue plates on either side unfold as a piece of particle control technology. Spreading Plavsky particles over the surface raises its strength and disperses beam hits.
  • One blade freezes what it touches. The Amazing GN Blade holds Plavsky particles in a low energy state, so anything it touches loses energy and stiffens as they return to normal. It can lock a beam saber too.
  • The booster will fly without the suit. The Trans-Am Booster adds thrust and stows two Trans-Am GN Blades in its wings. It can detach and work as a bird-shaped support unit, but the blades double as its balance, so losing them costs performance.

How big is it?

  • Overall height: 18.3 m
  • 1/144: roughly 12.7 cm
  • 1/100: roughly 18.3 cm

Frequently asked questions

1. Why was the Amazing Exia only 80 percent finished?

The tournament needed Gunpla faster than the A5 could be finished in space, so the build came back to Earth for its armaments. It flew in the semi-finals before that work was done.

2. How is it different from the Gundam Exia?

The frame comes from the Exia, but the weapons are its own: an Amazing GN Sword that folds from sword to rifle, forearm GN Vulcans that can also make beam sabers, the Amazing GN Shield, and on the finished form a hip blade and a back booster.

3. What happened to the Amazing Exia afterwards?

It was rebuilt for offence as the Exia Dark Matter, with the shield removed. After that model was beaten it reverted, was repaired with a torso from an original Exia and a cloak over the damaged shoulder, and later became the Repair II.
