OZ-00MS2B Tallgeese III

OZ-00MS2B Tallgeese III is Zechs Merquise's machine in New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz (After Colony 196). It was built around the same time as the Tallgeese II but missed the Eve Wars, and after the war the Preventers took it and handed it to Zechs under the code name Wind.

What it does in the story

Zechs attacks the Mariemaia Army as it launches from the asteroid base MO-III, cutting down ships with the suit's beam saber until Dekim Barton threatens to throw a space colony at Earth. Once Dekim flees, Zechs uses the mega cannon to destroy MO-III.

What makes it different

  • The mega cannon has a second setting. Opening and extending the barrel switches the weapon from Normal Mode to Maximum Output Mode, where its full power sits. A single shot in that mode destroyed MO-III, and the yield is put alongside the Wing Gundam Zero EW's twin buster rifle.
  • The shield hides a heat rod. The shield still hangs off the left shoulder and stores two beam sabers, but it now also holds a retractable heat rod. Cold it trips an opponent; heated, it cuts through a mobile suit.
  • The head finally gets vulcans. A pair of head-mounted vulcan guns is new on this model, alongside the heat rod and the mega cannon. The head and shoulder armour are new shapes rather than carried over from the earlier two machines.
  • The cockpit points toward the Epyon. The interface system built into the cockpit is described as the precursor of the Epyon System, the arrangement the Epyon's own control scheme is later built on.

How big is it?

  • Head height: 17.4 m according to Bandai's official spec, with an empty weight of 8.2 t
  • 1/144: roughly 12.1 cm at the head height
  • 1/100: roughly 17.4 cm at the head height

Frequently asked questions

1. Did the Tallgeese III fight in the Eve Wars?

No. It was developed at about the same time as the Tallgeese II but was not finished before the Eve Wars ended. The Preventers confiscated it and gave it to Zechs a year later.

2. What is the heat rod for?

It is a retractable cable kept inside the shield, usable cold to trip an opponent or heated to cut through a mobile suit, and it works where anti-beam coating blunts beam sabers.

3. Which Tallgeese III kits exist?

The HGFA 1/144 from 1998, the HGEW 1/100 from 1997, the RG 1/144 from 2019 and the MG 1/100 from 2015, the last two as P-Bandai releases.
