OZ-00MS Tallgeese is Zechs Merquise's mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (1995, After Colony 195). OZ completed the prototype in A.C. 175 as the first armed mobile suit of that calendar, and the whole line of After Colony machines — the Leo, and the Gundams by way of Wing Gundam Zero — descends from it.
What it does in the story
Zechs takes the Tallgeese out of storage at the Alliance's Corsica base and has it restored specifically to fight the Gundams that keep tearing up Alliance installations, and the suit proves more than a match for them. After he breaks with OZ a booster unit is fitted so the Tallgeese can leave the atmosphere, and he uses it to raid OZ's space forces from the Peacemillion. When newer mobile dolls make the suit obsolete, he self-detonates it as a diversion so he can take the Wing Gundam Zero.
What makes it different
-
It was designed with no thought for the pilot.
The super vernier thrusters give the Tallgeese acceleration that puts an enormous load on whoever is inside; one estimate puts it near 15 G. OZ's test pilot Otto is gravely injured taking the suit up, and the machine is effectively unflyable for an ordinary pilot.
-
The Leo is the Tallgeese with the danger taken out.
OZ simplified the design to cut the cost and to make something a normal pilot could survive, and that simplified machine became the OZ-06MS Leo, the first mass-produced mobile suit of the era. The Tallgeese itself was left half-finished and then mothballed.
-
The Dober Gun is a shoulder-mounted cartridge gun.
It sits on the right shoulder and is the suit's main ranged weapon, with a high rate of fire and enough recoil that only the Tallgeese can take it. A Leo carries a similar gun, but it does not have the mass behind it to absorb that recoil.
-
The face cover hides a square camera eye.
The head wears a face cover modelled on a medieval European knight, and taking it off exposes a square camera eye underneath. The suit is also built a size larger than the mass-produced machines that follow it, which is how it carries both the armour and the thrusters.
How big is it?
- Overall height: 17.4 m
- 1/144: roughly 12.1 cm
- 1/100: roughly 17.4 cm

Frequently asked questions
1. Why is the Tallgeese so difficult to pilot?
Because of the acceleration. The super vernier thrusters push the suit hard enough to put the pilot under extreme g-load, which is what hospitalises Otto during the test flight and why the design was never handed to line pilots.
2. Is the Tallgeese the prototype of the Leo?
Yes. The Leo was created by simplifying the Tallgeese's design to bring the cost down and to make the machine survivable for an ordinary pilot, which is why the two share a silhouette and a weapons family.
3. What is the difference between the Tallgeese and the Tallgeese II?
The Tallgeese II was assembled from the spare parts left over after Zechs destroyed the original, and it was built for Treize Khushrenada rather than for Zechs.
4. What is the booster unit on the Tallgeese for?
Space travel. The optional booster is close to twice the suit's size, can have parts stripped off for short trips, and can be jettisoned whole in combat so it does not weigh the suit down.
