NZ-666 Kshatriya

NZ-666 Kshatriya is the Newtype mobile suit flown by Marida Cruz of the Sleeves in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (U.C. 0096). Neo Zeon designed it as a smaller answer to the NZ-000 Queen Mansa, a machine over 40 m tall.

What it does in the story

Marida sorties from the Garancieres when Londo Bell closes on the Industrial 7 colony, taking on Jegans and ReZeLs so that Suberoa Zinnerman and his ship can get away. She later meets the Unicorn Gundam in Destroy Mode and comes out of it missing two binders.

What makes it different

  • The four binders do most of the work. Packing the machine's functions into the wings is what allowed it to shrink. Each binder holds two mega particle cannons, six funnels, an I-field generator, thrusters, a propellant tank and a sub-arm with a beam saber.
  • Twenty-four funnels, six to a binder. The funnels are beam-armed remote weapons aimed through the Psycho-Frame cockpit, and the number is the point: it lets one machine take on a crowd or swamp a single opponent.
  • The barrier is four separate I-fields. A generator inside each binder produces a Minovsky particle barrier around the suit that deflects beam fire. Four of them mean coverage survives losing a binder, which is what happens over Industrial 7.
  • Only one was ever built. Neo Zeon lost the ability to manufacture Psycho-Frame after the Second Neo Zeon War, so the Kshatriya stayed a one-off. The frame around the cockpit is what lets a Newtype give orders by thought.

How big is it?

  • Head height: 22.3 m according to Bandai's official spec, with an empty weight of 29.7 t and a full weight of 74.02 t
  • 1/144: roughly 15.5 cm at the head height, which covers the HGUC release

Frequently asked questions

1. Why does the Kshatriya have four binders?

Because concentrating the machine's equipment in the wings was the route to making it small. Each carries cannons, funnels, an I-field generator, thrusters and a sub-arm.

2. How many funnels does the Kshatriya carry?

Twenty-four, six in a container inside each binder. Losing a binder therefore costs six funnels as well as two cannons.

3. Why was only one Kshatriya built?

Neo Zeon could no longer manufacture Psycho-Frame once the Second Neo Zeon War ended, so the design could not be repeated and stayed a single machine.

4. What are the sub-arms for?

Close work the hands cannot reach. Each is hidden in a binder, carries a small beam saber, and can latch onto an opposing mobile suit's arm and take it off.
