NZ-333 Alpha Azieru

NZ-333 Alpha Azieru is the mobile armour flown by Quess Paraya in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (1988, U.C. 0093). Neo Zeon's Newtype Research Labs built it as a one-off, working from the Neue Ziel.

What it does in the story

It goes into action on 12 March U.C. 0093 with Quess at the controls and Gyunei Guss guiding her, and its funnels account for a long run of Londo Bell machines. Amuro Ray's ν Gundam answers by cutting several funnels down and damaging its head.

What makes it different

• The cockpit is in the head, and the head comes off. The pilot sits in the head, in a panoramic monitor and linear seat layout shared with the Sazabi and the Jagd Doga. The head separates and flies under its own power as an escape shuttle if the body is lost.
• Nine funnels carry their own generators. The funnels sit in recharge racks on the rear skirt armour, each with a built-in generator feeding a 20.4 MW beam gun, so they need no wire and ignore Minovsky interference. Their reach can take out a nuclear missile outside its blast radius.
• The arms are wire-guided gun pods. Two five-barrel psycommu arm cannons sit at the ends of the shoulder armour, steered along wires, so they attack from angles the body is not facing. They have less range than the funnels.
