MSN-04 Sazabi

MSN-04 Sazabi is Char Aznable's personal mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (1988, U.C. 0093), fielded by Neo Zeon while Char leads the movement. It is a heavily armoured, high-output machine built around Neo Zeon's new Psycho-frame technology.

What it does in the story

Char flies the Sazabi against Amuro Ray from their first exchange over Fifth Luna onward, where its output forces Amuro's Re-GZ to withdraw. It stays Char's machine through the film and is the suit he pilots in the final duel with Amuro at Axis.

What makes it different

• It is built around a Psycho-frame. Neo Zeon's new frame technology runs through the Sazabi's structure and raises the suit's responsiveness, which is what lets Char keep pace with a Newtype opponent.
• Six funnels sit in a detachable container. The Sazabi carries six funnels in a backpack container that can be opened and the funnels removed, so the remote weapons can be displayed deployed or stowed.
• It is a heavy machine, not a light duellist. Bandai lists 30.5 t dry and 71.2 t gross at 23.0 m head height, so the armour and the armament are the design, rather than speed.
• The head is a mono-eye. Unlike the twin-eye Gundam-type machines it fights, the Sazabi uses a single mono-eye camera in a Zeon-style head.

How big is it?

• Overall height: about 25.6 m (23.0 m at the head) according to Bandai's official spec
• 1/144: roughly 18 cm, which covers the HGUC and RG kits
• 1/100: roughly 26 cm, which covers the MG Ver.Ka
