MSM-03C Hy-Gogg

MSM-03C Hygogg is Zimmad's amphibious mobile suit for the Principality of Zeon, introduced at the very end of the One Year War in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (U.C. 0079). It was designed from scratch rather than as a refit.

What it does in the story

Three Hygoggs were part of the force Cyclops Team took to the Earth Federation base at the North Pole in December U.C. 0079, sent to destroy a prototype mobile suit. The prototype was launched into space before the Zeon machines reached it.

What makes it different

• The arms fold away for swimming. Shoulder armour flips down and the multi-segmented arms retract, so the suit travels underwater in a streamlined shape. Those arms carry the beam cannons on capacitor power, giving a wide firing arc.
• The torpedoes work above the water too. Four launchers sit in the head, and the torpedoes they fire double as anti-surface or anti-air missiles, so a machine built for the sea has an answer for targets on the shore.
• Its land gun fires Zaku ammunition. The pair of 120mm machine cannons in the waist use the same live rounds as the Zaku II's 120mm machine gun, which keeps an amphibious suit supplied ashore.
• A jet pack throws it out of the water. The optional back unit holds two chemical rockets and a searchlight, launching the suit out of the sea to glide to a landing. It burns out in that one jump.

How big is it?

• Head height: 15.4 m according to Bandai's official spec, with an empty weight of 54.5 t and a full weight of 79.2 t
• 1/144: roughly 10.7 cm at the head height, which covers the original kit and the HGUC release
