MSA-003 Nemo, also catalogued as RS-81, is the AEUG's mass-production mobile suit in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1985, U.C. 0087). Anaheim Electronics developed it from the Earth Federation's GM II, and it was the AEUG's own machine rather than a captured Federation suit. Fa Yuiry, Katz Kobayashi and Kayra Su are among the pilots who fly it.
What it does in the story
The AEUG had been fighting on GM IIs taken from the Federation or brought over by defectors, and its leadership wanted a suit of its own to show the Titans it was a serious opponent, so the job went to Anaheim. The Nemo served for the whole Gryps War, including the operation to seize a Salamis Kai-class cruiser and the orbital drop against the Titans' base at Jaburo. The AEUG also passed a number to Karaba.
What makes it different
-
The armour is where the money was saved.
The GM II uses a titanium alloy ceramic composite; the Nemo moved up to Gundarium alloy. That alloy is made with the same technology as the Marasai's, which brought the cost down far enough to fit a mass-production suit.
-
Fitting the sniper rifle changes its head.
With the L-9 type beam rifle the suit gets a movable goggle over the visor, carrying extra sensors for long-range work, as the GM Sniper II did. The rifle also keeps a bipod, so the machine is set up rather than fired on the move.
-
It can come down from orbit without a drop pod.
The Ballute System deploys a bowl-shaped balloon against re-entry heat, then releases it and leaves the suit on hover units in the chest and legs. Fuel left in those units can be spent on hovering or a high-speed strike once it is down.
How big is it?
- Overall height: 19.5 m, 18.5 m at the head, per Bandai's official spec
- 1/144: roughly 13.5 cm
- 1/100: roughly 19.5 cm

Frequently asked questions
1. Is the Nemo a GM?
It descends from the GM II but is not a GM. Anaheim built it for the AEUG, and its internal technology mixes Federation and Zeon practice, which is why it also carries the RS-81 designation. Its performance is rated above both the GM II and the Hizack.
2. Why does the Nemo turn up in Gundam Unicorn?
Because the AEUG and Karaba were folded into the Earth Federation Forces after the Gryps War and their surviving Nemos went with them. The type was still deployed in U.C. 0096, repainted by operating location, and fought Zeon remnants at Dakar and Torrington Base.
3. What was the Clay Bazooka designed to do?
Fire adhesive rounds that immobilise a machine instead of destroying it, which is not what a bazooka usually does. It can also load high explosive and pellet rounds, feeding from a chamber plus a seven-round magazine.
4. Why does the Nemo carry the same beam rifle as the GM II?
Because the rifle was already in production and the Nemo's energy supply is better, so the same 1.9 MW weapon performs to a higher standard on the newer suit. Sharing it also kept logistics simple for a machine meant to be built in numbers.
