MS-18E Kämpfer is Zeon's heavy assault mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket OVA (U.C. 0079), flown by Mikhail Kaminsky of the Cyclops Team in the last weeks of the One Year War. Zeonic built it from the YMS-18 for one job: hit, break, leave.
What it does in the story
One Kämpfer was landed on Ribo at Side 6 on 20 December U.C. 0079, when the Cyclops Team went in after the Federation's new Gundam. Kaminsky's machine wiped out the Scarlet Team squadron from the Gray Phantom, then stripped the NT-1's Chobam armour with a chain mine before the Gundam's gatling ended it.
What makes it different
The letter E is a verb.
Zeonic read MS-18E as Einhauen, German for to smash in. The suit carries nothing for a job outside the raid.
Its speed is paid for with armour.
The frame skips the hip skirt armour most suits wear and stays thin to save weight. The thruster count that makes it agile is also what drinks its fuel.
Every weapon fires shells, not beams.
Beams would draw reactor output and cost speed, so the load is a 192mm shotgun, Giant Bazookas, Sturm Fausts and a chain mine, plus two ZUX-197 shotguns.
The weapon racks are disposable.
Racks on the body hold the spare guns and can be ejected once the ammunition is spent. The machine also breaks into blocks for transport.
How big is it?
Overall height: 18.2 m, with a head height of 17.7 m, per Bandai's official spec
Weight: 43.5 t empty and 78.5 t fully loaded
1/144: roughly 12.6 cm, which covers the original kit and the HGUC release

Frequently asked questions
1. Why does the Kämpfer carry shotguns instead of a beam rifle?
Beam weapons draw on the reactor, and lost output shows up as lost speed. Shell-firing guns cost the reactor nothing, which is the trade the design is built around.
2. What does the E in MS-18E stand for?
Einhauen, German for to smash in. It names the suit's assignment rather than a version number.
3. Where does the Kämpfer fight in 0080?
At Ribo at Side 6, on 20 December U.C. 0079. It destroys the Scarlet Team machines from the Gray Phantom, damages the NT-1, and is then shot down.
4. Which Kämpfer kits exist?
A 1/144 original from 1989, the 1/144 HGUC from 2008 and the 1/100 Master Grade from 2001.
