MS-14C Gelgoog Cannon

MS-14C Gelgoog Cannon is the fire-support version of the MS-14A Gelgoog, and it comes from the Mobile Suit Variation design series rather than the anime. Of the twenty-four YMS-14S prototypes handed to the Chimera Corps, nine became MS-14B High Mobility Types and the rest were finished as Cannons.

What it does in the story

The Cannon was meant to break up formations and hit ships from behind the line. Fifteen were built, and twelve went into Operation Clarion, a pre-emptive strike on the Tianem Fleet's rallying point. Two were lost and three damaged, but the attack pushed the closing stages of the war back a week; Zeon then laid in parts for 122 more machines and the war ended first.

What makes it different

• The cannon rides on the backpack. The RA-2 beam cannon sits on a modified B-type backpack over the right shoulder, fed by the suit's generator. That backpack carries enough thrust to keep the machine manoeuvrable with the extra weight.
• It can still carry a normal rifle. Reactor output left room for other beam weapons, so it can take a beam rifle or a bazooka, and the forearm jet engines can come off for a three-tube missile launcher or a buckler.
• The melee weapon has an emitter at each end. The twin beam sword runs on a handle about as long as two saber hilts and can light one blade or both. It cuts through most armour without anti-beam coating and stows on the rear waist.
