MS-09R-2 Rick Dom II — Rick Dom Zwei — is the space-use Dom redesign from Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. Zeon developed it late in the One Year War under the United Maintenance Plan to replace the MS-09R Rick Dom.
What it does in the story
The Rick Dom had been a ground Dom adapted for space, so it carried compromises it did not need; the Rick Dom II was drawn for space from the start. At least one entered the Side 6 colony of Ribo on 13 December U.C. 0079 and fought the garrison's GM Command, and the type returned the next day covering the shuttle carrying Bernard Wiseman in for Operation Rubicon.
What makes it different
The armour was flattened to fit better machinery.
A more planar armour structure let Zeon fit a more powerful generator and higher-output thrusters, and extra verniers went in at the same time.
Two tanks double its time in space.
A pair of external propellant tanks is standard, extending operating time by about 200 percent, and they can be dropped once empty.
The chest beam gun became a real weapon.
The scattering beam gun in the left of the chest had been a way of blinding an opponent; its output was raised so that it works as a close-range beam weapon.
Gelgoog technology went into the frame.
Design work from the MS-14 Gelgoog carried over, production was simplified, the armour was made tougher, and a second-stage production cockpit cut the pilot's workload.
How big is it?
Head height: 18.6 m at 79.9 t gross and 45.6 t dry, according to Bandai's official spec
1/144: roughly 13 cm

Frequently asked questions
1. How is it different from the Rick Dom?
It was designed for space rather than converted to it: planar armour, a stronger generator, more verniers and external tanks that roughly double its operating time.
2. Why does it carry external propellant tanks?
Long patrols were the point. A two-layer shell holds propellant and coolant, the tanks add about 200 percent operating time, and they jettison when empty.
3. Where does it appear on screen?
First in 0080, around the Ribo colony, then in 0083 as a common Delaz Fleet machine; Guy Helmuth's unit flies one in Missing Link.
4. What is the light green Rick Dom II?
A colour variation of the same machine, issued as its own 1/144 HGUC release. The collection also carries the standard-colour HGUC kit and the Robot Spirits Ver. A.N.I.M.E. figure.
